Tata's Nexon EV was something that revolutionized the Electric vehicle market in India. This vehicle caught the headlines in the year 2019 as the most affordable and long range fully electric car and was launched on January 2020. This was among one of the first EVs to fall under the cost of 20 lakh INR.
The price of this car currently lies in the range of 14-17 lakh rupees and this EV is capable of providing a range of about 300km over full battery charge. This car uses 30.kW Lithium Ion battery pack and the company provides 8 year warranty on the battery. What reviews we saw about its performance were that this is an awesome car, however there were a few complaints regarding the body parts.
The thing to be noted here is that the car is perfect to replace traditional gas vehicles and Tata truly managed to make EVs this cheap. This was a big leap towards our dreams of sustainability and green energy. There is no doubt that cars like these will replace our traditional gas vehicles in future. Bu the question is that how far are we from this future.
The answer is "indeed very close". We see that this vehicle is perfect for cities and it was widely used by the working class in cities only. What a barrier of its usage in long distance usage is the infrastructure that we mostly lack. By infrastructure we mean the charging stations and service centers for the EV.
No doubt that car gave much better experience than a normal gas vehicle. But for long routes where people usually like the speed the vehicle battery will drain mush faster. It will reduce the range by less or half of what is promised. So there is a need to have more charging stations on longer routes and that too should be fast enough o charge the EV in at least 10-15 minutes. I mean who will like to stay waiting for more than this much?
So what we found was that the problem does not lie in vehicle but in the infrastructure. If and only if the infrastructure is developed well enough the car will definitely be used more widely. The car is a breeze to drive and produces less noise and is more than comfortable.
Is there any other challenge for this car?
Well yes! The challenge is from other competitors. This car was something that came in the competition two extraordinary EVs both promising high performance. One being Hyundai Kona and other MG ZS EV. The fact that both these cars gave longer range even have more power, it was a something of a worry for EV like Tata Nexon to stand out.
However, what made Tata Nexon EV to stand out was the high prices of both Kona and ZS EV. This was something that a midddle class person considered while buying .In fact this thing helped Nexon EV more than enough. The fact that is to be noted here is that this car had comparable performance though a little less but there was a significant gap in price. We need to understand that motive of manufacturing these EVs was such that a common person who is planning to buy a vehicle should be able to but an EV. That budget on an average is a bit less than the prices of Nexon EV. But this was something that was not a big deal. Those who can afford to spend more than 20 or 30 lakhs could thus find better EVs than Kona and MG ZS EV. This made all the difference.
Tata Nexon thus truly became a successful EV a car that middle class person can afford that can help our dreams of sustainability come true and that would lead us to a better future.

What is next for Tata Nexon EV?
In 2022 the new version of this car is about to get launched. With better performance. Longer range of about 400kms and also with a larger battery pack of 40.2kW. The price although will not be rising much and there is a possibility that it will be in available in the range of about 15-18lakhs.
The new car will no doubt has better functionalities and much more things are added to its features including a 7 inch led touch panel.
