WHAT IS LOVE

“AT THE END OF THIS ROAD I REALIZED THAT YOU ADORNED MY WAY WHILE I FOLLOWED”

~Saad

How do you define a feeling? How do you react to it? Then how do you express it? We all share same human nature and so do we have emotions of same nature for every one. We tend to show a reaction motivated by some other action, be it auditory, visual, olfactory or tactual. We receive information from our environment that develops in us an evaluation to make a judgment for its use. In scientific terms this sense to evaluate and categorize information is followed up by nerve impulses and hormones that make an important element of our feelings.

Thus feelings are a natural and essential element of living beings and one of such beautiful feeling is that of love. Love is Gods great gift for us humans, it calls from us much variety of actions that no other feeling has. Perhaps, most importantly it develops in a person a dire want to be attached, restlessness in separation and tiredness from all other worldly affairs. This indeed is a thing to worry about.

A common understanding of love is that people often think it is about having relationships. Not every time but most common in youngsters, it would mean having friends from opposite genders, indeed a little less level understanding. While as for mature people this would include all relations in life i.e. with family friends and society. About how we care and think about them and how much we look after them. For broader vision one may include relation with nature and its components, its animals, birds, mountains and scenery. For the best to tell, one’s love for God is above everything.

This way people fall in love with a variety of things, be it living or non-living. Without doubt, falling in love with opposite gender is also an inclusion and definitely has more impact on a human than other things. It is no wrong in feeling an attachment towards someone and everyone must respect that. But this love cannot be respected if one wishes to go around the wrong corner. Similarly relation of parent and child, pet and owner, writer and pen are respected and dignified. Love cannot be neglected and it turns has the power to restructure a person, verily another marvel of this feeling. What love does to you is what we should be concerned of and what yo do with that love should be pondered about.

Often when a person falls in love he feels an attachment towards it, that makes him to want for it and it separation becomes unbearable as discussed before. Love also makes you feel a need to prove it. If not dealt justly and wisely, it can lead one to such a wrong path that he or she would have never thought about.

Speaking in a broad manner, love should bring in one’s heart a realization that he is solely dependent on God for everything. As a want grows inside him he should also desire to grow his attachment with God. His longing can make him restless but he should find comfort in prayers. He may think of doing things bad for him but he must act wisely and ask Gods help at every stage. They say in love there are no leaps and bounds but he must realize that he is bound by laws of the Almighty. This way the love in him becomes pure and his rejection to desires makes him strong. This way not only the love with the beloved but also one’s love to God becomes more strengthened.

To explore all powers of love is an onus on the lover, it is his rejection to desires that would allow him access to great powers. A lover often remembers his beloved be it a good or a bad time, this remembrance is of no use unless remembrance of God is prioritized over it. Even if the beloved is there with him, his praise and remembrance of God in front of the beloved for a few moments makes that moment better than a whole life without this part. In brief love should increase ones closeness to God, it should make him poor in front of God. As God says in his book.

You are those in need of Allah , while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

Al-quran 35:15
