What is the next generation of Artificial Intelligence?

 


Artificial intelligence has already dominated every industry in the world. From our search results to our online dating prospects to the way we shop, it has taken over every sphere of life. With this rapid advancement and the regular arrival of new machinery, predicting a different realm in a few years is not a pipe dream.

I'm sure many of us associate the term "AI" with sci-fi fantasies or fears of robots taking over the world. While no one can predict AI future exactly, current trends paint a much different picture.

In reality, artificial intelligence (AI) is already at work all around us. According to data, the use of AI in many business sectors has increased by 270 per cent in the last four years.

It has not been much time since the ideas of AI and machine learning evolved and their has been so fast developments in the field that we are already encompassed with this technology in our day to day life. The digital assistants, auto-correct, autopilot cars, recognition systems and much more. But what next generation of AI will be capable of doing is something extraordinary. We will be able to see technology that aside of doing basic things like input, process and give output will be able to predict these things beforehand. Companies like Qualcomm and Samsung have already started making processor chips with a place reserved for AI section.
What is an expectation is that the next generation AI will be able to predict the data and that would mean we will be able to have much advanced technology that will take less space, less energy and is cheaper.What Qualcomm says about its new chip-set is that it would be able to optimize a photograph by almost 40,000% and also it can predict frames between videos and games so it can make a 40fps game look like 60fps or even 120fps. The algorithms are such defined that besides predicting text or spellings or other input it will be able to predict colors frames, and other information and even output can be predicted before getting processed.
Students from M.I.T. have developed and AI tool that can predict breast cancer in women five years earlier. This is an indication that the health sector will the one most profited by the new generation of AI as their have been many researches about cultivating the AI technology in medical stream. The most important is in diagnosis and medical supervision. Thus we can say that this technology will change our lives and bring betterment in our society.

Now let's come to modern days where researchers have built an AI system based on deep learning called "AlphaGo". This AlphaGo was able to beat Lee Sedol, one of the greatest Go player in history. But what makes this game so special that researchers are putting all their efforts to develop a stronger version of it?

Let's understand this with the help of an example. Suppose you have two options left and right but both paths lead to same place (which is smart). Our brain makes use of heuristics and rules to figure out the best possible option in these conditions. But if you have three or more options then things gets confusing and complicated for our limited mind. So what can we do? To get rid of these confusions we'll need artificial intelligence which will be capable enough to find better decisions than humans can figure out. This was the reason why AlphaGo challenged Lee Sedol, because AI challenges maximum human minds/brains with better decisions making abilities against itself so that it can learn from them.

Donald John then said, "We are on the edge of an exciting time and we need to be bold in our thinking." Now we all know what happened after the challenge ,AlphaGo stunned humanity by beating Lee Sedol 4-1. So do you think that making a decision making robot like AlphaGo is the future of artificial intelligence? I think so too because this technology has the power to improve human life in coming future. This technology will allow us to focus on more important things rather than spend hours in finding solutions for those confusions which may occur frequently in daily life.
