The Rain

poem by Saad

The Rain poem describes an atmosphere of a rainy day. Rain is used to describe elements of pain or grief. Rain also signifies birth or an upcoming. In this poem rain is described as mercy. Something has made the poet restless and he looked up to the sky for a sign. His call is answered as it begins to rain. He says the rain came as a mercy to him. It made him wonder where did the first drop of this rain touch the earth. This is also the case with life that sometimes your grief seems to have no end but you do not think about source of this grief. This is the poet's quest i.e. to find the source of his grief and change what wrong he had done at the first place. In the last he stresses the need to get up and work towards achieving the glory he had wanted. He cannot stay there for the he is losing time.

I LOOKED UP UPON A GRAY SKY
AND A MERCY DROP FELL IN MY EYE

SO I BEGAN TO WONDER WHERE ON EARTH
FELL THE RAIN DROP WHICH FIRST TOOK BIRTH

AT SOME DISTANCE WAS A MERRY CHILD
JUMPING IN THE MUD AND RUNNING WILD

POOR BEING WILL HAVE A REASON TO BE SAD
HIS MOTHER WILL NOT BEAR THE MESS HE HAD

I TOO ONCE HAVE HAD A BATH
OF RAIN THAT CAME FROM ROOF TO PATH

AND I WAS SCOLDED TO THE FILL
I WAS WET AND I FELL ILL

IT HEALS TO HEAR THIS TIP TAP
THIS SOUND OF RAIN IN NATURES LAP

SO WHERE IT BEGAN TO RAIN FIRST
I WANT TO KNOW I HAVE A THIRST

I CANNOT WAIT AND SEE IT FLOW
I MUST WALK NOW THERE ARE MILES TO GO

TO SEE THIS SKY ON A LEVEL OF GLORY
TO WITNESS A WONDER AND PASS ON THE STORY.
